Judy Busby: When I looked up and saw his eyes, he smiled. His eyes smiled. Mr. Machek, my art professor at Albion College, said, “It’s okay. Everyone can be an artist if he or she wants to-just reach into your heart and give yourself the freedom to create.” Since that day, I’ve continued to create with confidence, enthusiasm and passion. -Judith C. Busby, August 2005
Donna Marcinkowski DeSoto: When mere words can't possibly express what is going on in the world out there, or in my head, I turn to fabric, fiber and beads. I no longer have to worry about word counts or the hand of an over-zealous editor with a red pen when working on a composition.
Annabel Ebersole: Quilting connects me with the generations of creative women in my family. I have finally acknowledged the artist within and the wonder and joy of this gracious gift. Making quilts to support others completes this flow.
Lisa Ellis: When an inspiration comes, I become obsessed with the idea and can't focus on other tasks (like cleaning or laundry) until the design takes form. My art is an act of worship. It flows from a spiritual place and expresses the beauty I find in nature and gratitude for our Creator.
Paula Golden: To quilt is to be part of a continuum of men and women who have stitched their lives in fiber to provide warmth and nourishment for the body and soul.
Sandi Goldman: I express creativity through the exploration of textiles. I keep discovering the endless design possibilities of fabric, fibers, paints, dyes, and even beads. The excitement of one piece leading to the next allows me to investigate new ideas and techniques. Interacting with other artists and the world around me is an important stimulus to expanding the dimensions of my work.
Barb Hollinger: I am convinced that certain fabrics sing. They cry to be cut up and reassembled into a concert of fabrics all singing together in a choir with each voice filling a different part of the spectrum. I am simply the concert master, directing the song until it fills my soul. October 2005
Bunnie Jordan: Quilting is an important part of my life. Whether studying old quilts or making new ones, I'm guaranteed a learning experience, an exchange with friends, and satisfying that need just to touch fabric and see what it can become. I feel fortunate to have found an interest and passion that gives back on so many levels.
Carole Nicholas: My work is greatly influenced by my travels around the world. Colors and textures are my inspiration, and I find stimulation for all the senses when visiting new places, learning about different cultures, discovering new horizons. These life experiences find their way into my quilts.
Cyndi Souder: From vision to reality, everything about the quilt process engages me: the initial flash of inspiration, the fabric choices, the design decisions, and especially the quilting. When I am creating, my heart sings and I am at peace. |
